TODAY'S READING
When God Feels Silent
Holy Saturday is the day in between.
Jesus had died. The tomb was sealed. And for those who followed Him, it felt like the story had come to an end. The One they had placed their hope in was gone, and with Him, it seemed like their future was gone too. Scripture doesn’t give us many details about this day, but the silence itself says enough.
It was quiet. Confusing. Heavy.
The disciples were left trying to make sense of everything they had just witnessed. The miracles, the teachings, the promises—it all seemed to lead somewhere, and now it felt like it had led nowhere. Questions likely filled their minds as disappointment settled in. What they expected God to do hadn’t happened, and they were left sitting in the tension of it.
Holy Saturday is the space many of us know well, even if we wouldn’t call it by that name. It’s the in-between season. When prayers feel unanswered, when circumstances haven’t changed, and when God feels silent. It’s the place where it’s tempting to assume that nothing is happening.
But the silence of Saturday wasn’t the absence of God.
Even as the tomb was sealed and guarded, God was still at work. What looked final wasn’t final. What felt like an ending was actually a turning point. The disciples couldn’t see it yet, but resurrection was already in motion.
That’s what makes this day so meaningful. It reminds us that faith isn’t only about trusting God when we see movement, it’s about trusting Him when we don’t. It’s choosing to believe that He is working behind the scenes, even when everything in front of us feels still.
If you find yourself in a season that feels unresolved, you’re not alone. Holy Saturday gives language to that experience. It also gives us hope.
Because just like that first Saturday, the story isn’t over.
Prayer Practice: Bring any areas of your life that feel uncertain or unresolved to God. Ask Him to strengthen your trust in the waiting and remind you that He is still working—even when you can’t see it.

--When therefore it was evening, on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were locked where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the middle, and said to them, “Peace be to you.” - John 20:19
